Additional Services

Talk to your Pharmacist

We offer many free & fee-based services that you may not know about.

An appointment based program which allows you to review your medications with your pharmacist one-on-one in the privacy of our consultation room. Your pharmacist will work with you and your physician to ensure you are getting the most from your medication. Both you and your physician will be provided an accurate and up-to-date list of all medications you are taking, including vitamins and over-the-counter drugs. This service is recommended annually as an annual medication “check up”.

An appointment based program in which your pharmacist will do a complete analysis of your medication profile and work with you and your physician on optimizing your health. Your pharmacist is trained to search for drug related problems. Some examples might be a medication dose that is too low and not providing you with the benefit you need or it could be the discovery of a drug-drug interaction that could potentially cause you harm. At the end of this meeting your pharmacist will often produce a list of recommendations for improving your drug therapy that can be discussed with your doctor at your next appointment.

In Nova Scotia, your pharmacist can now adjust your prescription if they believe a change will better support your health. This may include changing the medication, dosage form, dose, or quantity.

To make sure your care stays coordinated, your pharmacist will send a fax to your doctor to let them know about the change. They will also create a monitoring plan so you and your pharmacist can be confident the new prescription is working as expected.

This service can save you time and stress by helping you avoid an extra doctor’s appointment or a trip to a walk-in clinic.

This service may be helpful if your prescribed medication:

  • Is not available from the manufacturer. Your pharmacist can suggest a similar medication that works the same way.
  • Is not covered by your drug plan or is too expensive. A more affordable option may be available that works just as well.
  • May cause side effects or is not helping you feel better. Your pharmacist can adjust the dose, form, or quantity to better meet your needs.

If you have questions, your pharmacist can help you understand whether this service is right for you.

Sometimes medications need to be made to fit the person, not the other way around.

At Associated Maritime Pharmacies Limited, we offer compounding services, which means creating custom medications to meet individual needs. Our pharmacists work closely with patients and prescribers to prepare medications that are easier to take, safer, and more effective.

Compounding may help if:

  • A medication is hard for a child, pet, or aging parent to take
  • You have allergies or sensitivities to dyes, fillers, or preservatives
  • A medication is no longer available from the manufacturer
  • You need a specific dose that is not commercially available
  • Swallowing pills is difficult

  • Nasal sprays, throat sprays, and inhalation solutions
  • Pediatric and veterinary formulations
