* Cost of vaccinations are additional. We direct bill insurance plans and some may be covered. This can be further discussed during your consultation. Prices are subject to change.

No, except the flu shot.  Some vaccinations are covered by private drug insurance plans but the consultation fee will have to be paid for and submitted manually by the patient for review of coverage.

If you have an insurance plan, it could be covered under categories such as health care spending account, or paramedical practitioners. Please check with your insurance plan to confirm.

Some will be covered by a provincial plan.  We also have direct billing to most drug plans and our pharmacy will be able to confirm if they are covered before proceeding. Our pharmacists will provide more information during the consultation.

Before Your Appointment

Yes, you can book an appointment. The Pharmacist/Travel Medicine Advisor is available for anyone wishing to seek advice for a safe and healthy trip.

Yes, you need to have a consultation with one of our travel advisors even if you know what vaccine you want. Many of the vaccinations and medications are prescription products, therefore our pharmacists will provide an individual assessment to ensure each one is safe for you based on your medical history.  Information found online can be misleading, so it is important to get the most up-to-date advice.

Ideally, schedule your travel health consultation 4-6 weeks before departure. Some vaccines require multiple doses over several weeks, and your immune system needs time to build protection. However, last-minute vaccinations are still beneficial and can be administered up to the day of travel.

Please bring your passport, travel itinerary, insurance card, and any previous vaccination records. If you have chronic health conditions or take regular medications, bring a list of these as well. This helps us provide the most appropriate recommendations.

You can see a physician, but they usually charge for this service. Nova Scotia Pharmacare does not cover it. It can also be hard to stay up to date, since travel recommendations change often.

Our Travel Medicine Advisor specializes in travel care and is a member of the International Society of Travel Medicine. They use a global health information system that provides daily updates on current recommendations and alerts for outbreaks in the exact regions you are visiting.

During & After Your Appointment

The pre-travel consultation appointment will take 30-60 minutes.  Vaccinations may be scheduled the same day, or at a later time that is convenient for you.

Yes, most travel vaccines can be safely administered during the same visit. Our healthcare providers will review your needs and create an efficient vaccination schedule. This is actually recommended to ensure you're fully protected before departure.

Most travel vaccines have mild side effects like soreness at the injection site, low-grade fever, or fatigue lasting 1-2 days. Serious reactions are rare. Our pharmacist will discuss potential side effects and provide guidance on managing any symptoms.

We provide an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP/yellow card) for Yellow Fever and other vaccines. We can also provide a yellow fever exemption letter depending on the situation. Check your destination's entry requirements ahead of time.

The yellow fever vaccine is a prescription product that is restricted to Health Canada-designated yellow fever vaccination centers.  Yellow Fever is subject to the International Health Regulations. There are some additional considerations for this vaccine that will be reviewed with you in detail, during your consultation.
